Topic: Virus writing predictions 2012

Last year I gave some virus writing predictions for 2011 - as it was fun, i want to continue this tradition :)

Reviewing the 2011 Predictions

[1] there will be a great EOF#3 in 2011

[2] there will be a Google Android Virus or Worm
There have been several malware for android (see [Register or log in to view the URL] or [Register or log in to view the URL]), but no self-replicator. So, I was wrong.

[3] roy g biv will release some great viruses/techniques
Yes, for instance the W32/W64.Heavens virus.

[4] apart of EOF#3, there will be at least one other viruswriting e-zine
Yes, there was virus writing bulletin 2011, Brigada 0cho#3 and valhalla#1.

[5] there will be the first pure batch real metamorphic virus/worm :)
Believe it or not, on 29th december 2011 I got an e-Mail with a file attached, which is addressing this prediction. (The code - which is maybe the most complex batch code i've ever seen - is ~1000lines, it will be released soon :) ).

[6] there will be viruses/worms for at least 5 new platforms/languages/programs/OSes
hh86 made a J#/JS.NET infector, roy g biv wrote an infector for 010 Editor Scripts, alcopaul released a C# and VB.NET source code infector in brigada 0cho#3 (even a cross infector then), i wrote a Mathematica virus, in EOF#3 there is a LUA Script infector called Lua.Lamea. So, definitivly yes! :)

[7] Alex Gostev will contribute a simple buggy vbs trojan to EOF#3
Surprisingly not; most likely he submitted but got rejected.

[8] there will be a virus/worm that spreads via iPhones
same as for Android malware: Several commercial trojans/stealers (for jailbroken iPhones only?), but no self-replicator.

[9] in VB, there will be a description about a very advanced and interesting script/macro virus

[10] there will be a advanced artificial-intelligent self-spreading cyberweapon (yes, Stuxnet+brain) written by anonymous defending wikileaks against all stupid govs and capitalistic companies out there :)
While there have been some [Register or log in to view the URL], it is unlikely that they were intelligent and written by Anonymous.

Predicitions for 2012

[1] There will be at least three VX magazines in 2012.
i predict one more than i did last year, but i have a good feeling :)

[2] There will be viruses/worms for at least 5 new platforms/languages/programs/OSes.
No problem, most likely we will have done it before autumn :)

[3] There will be a self-replicator for a so-far untouched mobile device (Android, iPhone, iPad, [Register or log in to view the URL], [Register or log in to view the URL], [Register or log in to view the URL], ...).
I dont like those stupid information/money stealers, I'm looking forward to something like vallez' bluetooth worm Caribe or Retro's infrared Worm.

[4] There will be a virus/worm written for Windows 8 or one of its beta versions.
[Register or log in to view the URL] - before Win2K came out, Benny already wrote [Register or log in to view the URL]. This is pretty cool, we should try this again :)

[5] There will be at least one remarkable developement in hidding itself from antivirus-detection.
New or fundamentally improved concept for self-mutation, hidding within a file or some totally nonstandard techniques like those that [Register or log in to view the URL] proposes. This has always my favorite topic in virus writing, so i wish it comes true!

[6] There will be at least one real metamorphic self-replicator.

[7] There will be at least two malware written by government agencies.
To either fight against another countries (Stuxnet), fight against its own inhabitants (germanys R2D2 trojan) or for self-defense (Japans plans to find attackers), or written for some other more creative reasons

[8] Alex Gostev will try it again and contribute a simple buggy vbs trojan to some vx magazine in 2012. This time it will be released :)
